Locke Street Will Be Open For Business
Councillor Brian McHattie and City of Hamilton staff met with
residents and Locke Street business owners at a Public Information
Meeting regarding plans for watermain replacement and road reconstruction
on a section of Locke and Aberdeen.
City staff were able to confirm they would be working with business
owners to ensure those businesses which rely on water would not
be left without service during business hours. The business owners
asked the city staff to communicate that Locke Street will be open
for business.
Residents expressed concern about additional traffic and parking
restrictions on side streets and alternate routes. Particular concern
was raised about the safety of children making their way to and
from St. Joseph's school which is adjacent to the construction
area. Requests were made for improved communication between schools
and the city.
Several residents made the point that while there would certainly
be some inconvenience, the work was absolutely necessary. Others
pointed out the need for neighbours to work together for solutions.
It does seem that cooperation and patience will be key making
the next few months go as smoothly as possible.
