Sustainable Community Recognition Award
VISION 2020 describes the The City of Hamilton community in the
year 2020, if the decisions affecting our community follow the principles
of sustainable development. It describes a community that includes
a system of connected and protected natural areas, swimming where
it is currently banned, a new transportation system, a different
form to the urban area, a diversified and environmentally friendly
economy, community participation in decision making, a strong local
agricultural sector, and many other positive changes to the community.
For 2001, the Vision 2020 committee chose Locke Street and the
Locke Street Merchants Association for an award in recognition of
their efforts to promote the goal of a sustainable community in
the City of Hamilton.
