17 March 2003: Coming March 30—A Musical
Celebration to Protect the Red Hill Valley, the Niagara Escarpment,
and Cootes Paradise.
As we approach the end of Hamilton's coldest winter in years, it's
time to celebrate the coming of spring. And what better way to do
that than with music performed by some of our most talented local
musicians.
We're having a concert. But this is no ordinary concert. It's a
concert with a cause -- an urgent cause. We're talking about the
preservation of the Red Hill Valley, the Niagara Escarpment, and
Cootes Paradise -- our three most spectacular urban natural endowments.
All continue to be threatened -- the Red Hill Valley most directly.
We hope you can come to this concert. Join us in celebrating these
wonderful natural endowments with splendid music.
We have a great line-up of performers -- jazz singer Jude Johnson,
soprano Lita Classen, mezzo soprano Jenny Cohen, pianists Allan
Behan and Carolyn Hawkshaw, and cellists Rachel DeSoer and Rebecca
Morton. There will also be a poetry reading by John Terpstra. And,
as a special attraction, former mayor and stellar pianist Bob Morrow
will demonstrate that his talents are as much musical as they are
political.
