Another Watermain Break on Locke
Sends a River Down Homewood
By: Craig Hermanson,

23 February 2003: A month and two days after a similar break
two short blocks away—another break. Who's to blame? No one
can turn around and blame the weather—it's an incredibly mild
day. Aging infrastructure in older neighbourhoods which has been
let crumble while council chases development dollars. Tell me your
thoughts and send me

Please excuse the typos and poor grammar. I'll update this page
to add content and context with little quality control throughout
the day.
A few minutes after the break, neighbours and I were hip deep in
water trying to clear the clean-outs. It worked to a degree, but
the storm sewers had more than they could take and it just started
to spill down toward Herkimer. Then the water poured through the
back yards from the alley south of Homewood as the water bubbled
up from the storm sewer grate there. I headed back to put on warm
dry clothes and grab my camera. I'll post more links shortly—commentary,
video and photos. Thanks to all those who agreed to send video or
photos.
Good luck to everyone in the midst of it.
