Locke Street South, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

A Vibrant and Eclectic Street

Locke Street is located in Hamilton's South West, below the Niagara Escarpment. Just off the beaten path, getting to Locke Street is easy. Locke Street South is the commercial centre of what is arguably one of the areas most interesting neighbourhoods. The street is sometimes known as 'Antique Alley' -- after the number of antique stores along the street -- but you'll also have no problem getting your hair cut and styled. (Check out the 'Jump' directory to the top-right.) For that matter, you can also get your engine tuned, pick up some flowers, buy some rare threads and enjoy a great meal! There's too much to do to list it all! Wait... it is all listed in the Service Directory!

Most of the development in the area took place around the turn of the last century. The surrounding housing varies from estate homes to perfect starter homes to funky apartments. The mix is dynamic and the people that you meet in the neighbourhood are practically fanatical in singing the neighbourhoods' praises. Of course, they'll just as readily tell you just what needs to be changed to make it that much better.

Hamilton itself is known as 'Steel Town' -- even in these new-economy times. While Hamilton is the Canadian capital for steel, business in the city and region have diversified dramatically in the past few decades. Hamilton is situated on Lake Ontario, between (and less than an hour's drive from both) the provincial capital of Toronto and the tourist destination of Niagara Falls.
